super duper beeny!

so cool!wow!this is soooooooo great! I have a new toy, and I love it. (isn't that always the case? I still love my thumb board though, don't get me wrong.) it's the targus ultra mini optical mouse. a christmas present. it's unbelievably teeny. now, i've got relatively small hands, even for a woman, but this mouse still seems like a barbie-sized toy as opposed to a real mouse. and it's small even compared to the micro innovations notebook mouse I had before! it weighs practically nothing. i love the way it handles, and the retractable cord. even has a little pouch to store it in when you've packed up your laptop. way incredibly cool.

my cable modem died (probably a result of all the power cycling that happened when the house down the street caught fire and we all had to evacuate), so i went and got another one. still bought linksys, the befcmu10. but version 2 is a little different from the first one. for instance, it's stackable, like the other router products. doesn't help me because the cable feed doesn't reach over to where the router is, but what the heck. it was a good thought. the only thing i found that was weird was that it doesn't work when i clone the mac address. so i left it with all zeroes and everything works just fine. i have no idea what's up with that. i may have to enter it anyway later - after the inevitable and unpredictable future power cycle "opportunities" that come with living in colorado. if you're planning to move to colorado, make sure you have surge protectors for EVERYTHING, even silly little things like clock radios and boom boxes, not just your computer equipment. trust me on this. (yeah, i learned the hard way, how did you guess?)

i am going to try to install my wireless router this weekend. wonder how well it will work? hope i can lock it down sufficiently... i've been dreading this, but now there's no other way. at least now i can unthread the 100' length of CAT V out of the fireplace so that we can use it again. (through the ash trap, down the column, out the ash door, through the laundry room, around the perimeter of the room to the router. well, i didn't want to drill!)
