another use for frozen corn

of course you can put it on burns, scrapes, and bruises. it's flexible and it moulds nicely to uneven contours. but i think it's most interesting use is for fixing laptops.

yes, that's right, i used it to fix a recalcitrant hp omnibook 6000 with CD-ROM problems.

when omnibooks get older, they heat up - the fan ain't what she used to be. so the CD-ROM overheats and you can't install a new O/S. or ms office. or any software install that takes a while. or watch a DVD.

how to get around it? slap a big package of frozen corn under the right hand side of the laptop, fire it up, and install away. i put the rectangular power cord block under the other side for balance, and it was good to go. installs went smoothly, i could watch DVD's again, and the fan didn't sound like it was having an asthma attack.

i think this one wins the award for most asinine solution to an asinine hardware problem for 2004.
