This is a not a big site, but it's an
interesting showcase for a local artist, Kristina. She paints wall murals
and other decorative designs. I wanted to create a site that reflected the
creativity of her work and her personality. For this project, I used a
different, RAD, almost XP-style approach. I did all the programming in the
presence of the artist. This was new for me. Usually a client can watch the
code in progress (if I'm working at the client site) or else they can view
it online on my development server. But since the site was an online
extension of her work and personality, this approach made sense. |

Kristina was very hands-on about the look and
feel of the site. She specified the color scheme, the choice of fonts (if
you've seen my other work, it's apparent that calligraphy and script fonts
are not my usual), and the way her artwork was integrated into the design of
the site. From a technical perspective, this site is XML-based, template
driven, and uses CSS. This was a way to allow Kristina the flexibility to
make all the design and content changes she wanted with minimal maintenance. |

There is an FAQ section and another one about
the artist. She thought it would help if people knew more about her and her
design philosophy; I thought so too. |

The company's phone number is in the <TITLE>
tag, so wherever you go in the site, you can't miss it. (It will even be
there when you bookmark it, so you don't even need to launch the site.)
There is an online feedback/request for quote page, where you can leave your
contact information and have it sent to the artist. This was a nice
compromise of functionality against look and feel considerations. I think it
was a win/win for her; she got an online form that still feels like part of
her artistic expression. All in all, I think this is a great way for her to
share her talent and creativity with potential clients. |
